I thought mantis shrimp were bad for a tank or certain things in a tank is this true?

They are bad for your main tank.. they eat fish, hermits, snails,..But if you have a tank just for them they are super cool to have.fun to watch.very smart.and can even tell the diff in people.Mine dont even care if im looking all in the tank. but if i have some one come over and they look in it gets all mad .and trys to scare them away

I don't know anything else that displays the same kind of intelligence as mantis shrimp. really entertaining to watch!

depends on species too. for example, the smaller species pose no threat to fish (except maybe gobies and other small benthic fish). but yes, certain things such as hermits and snails don't much like them
