Their site must be down for some reason. They also are the makers of octopus skimmers and that site is down also.

i did the searches and all of the threads refer you to asmskimmer.com. also the links you gave don't give you enough information on how to do the mods or the new ratings for the skimmers after the mods.

recirc mod. i know how to do the mesh mod and the gate valve mod. but i also want to know what the new rating would be for the asm g3 with all the mods. i have a 180g display and almost 250g all together water volume with medium bioload and want to know if it's going to be good enough or if i should get a g4.

so i tried to do the gate valve mod on my g1-x and it made the cup constantly overflow, open or closed = same effect. why would this be? I had to have done something wrong.

Saltwatermadnes,

Can you show us a picture? It sounds like it was either done wrong, or to small of a size.

So i took it apart before i could get some pics installed but these are the different ways i tried it.( i wanted to skim throughout the night)

It is all 1 1/4 in piping, the only thing that made a difference is how high the riser pipe was after installation, but then there would be no point in the mod.

You're 3rd picture is the configuration you should be using, except the T should be directly attached to the riser tube, with the riser all the way down. The short piece of pipe should be on top of the T. The only problem I had with this configuration is that it would overflow on startup because a siphon would eventually develop on the output side of the gate valve, helping it draw water faster through the restriction of the gate valve. Without the siphon, like at startup, the water wouldn't go through the gate valve fast enough. To fix this I drilled a hole in the top of the elbow to prevent the siphon and opened up the gate valve a little bit more.
