Or could I go with a different salt, one not for the Reef? Also, can someone provide a link to the "Salt Test Thread", the one that tests all the contents of the salts.

It does not by any means provide all of the parameters of salt mixes, just calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium, but here it is:

I think that Instant Ocean is fine for fish, but the corallline on the rock willb enefit from higher calcium and magnesium tha Reef Crystals provides.

I use Instant Ocean that I boost the calcium and magnesium in with Dowflake and MAG flake when I make each batch. It is cheap, easy, and I get exactly the levels of calcium and magnesium that I choose. :)
