Anyone have any ideas on this? Id like to get some PC fans to mount in the stand to cool the sump, but the pc fans run on 12VDC and the AC is 120VAC.

What do you guys use?

12V plug-in transformer like the kind you can buy a walmart. Cut the connector off, wire caps

so id need one for each fan? Is there a way to power all fans (5) with on AC plug?

check the amp draw of the fans. Add it all up and make sure the brick you buy to power them has at least that much power. I ran 5 off a brick I got a radio shack no problem for a different project. I'd check there. If you can't find anything local ebay or other internet distributors would have them...

You can buy small variable voltage AC/DC power supplies at WalMart or Radio Shack for $10-$15 that will run 3 or 4 fans each.
I prefer the variable voltage ones so I can vary the fan speed by changing the DC voltage from 12v down to 10.5 or 9v when I want to slow the fans down.

All the fan says is "Current 0.53A" and 12V

I know little about electric work, can you guys help me out with a link or something as to with plugin trasformer to get?

id really appreciate it.

Something like this will work but i know you can get it for less at WalMart.

I power up to 3 Vantec Stealth 120 mm computer fans on a single 250 mA adapter no problem.
All you do is cut the DC plug end off the power supply and splice those two wires to the red and black wires on the fan. Ignore the yellow or white wires on the fans as you will not need them. The fans will run full speed at 12v and slower at 9v or whatever you set them at. Makes for real quiet fans plus at times the slower speed is all you need to cool things like in winter months.

oh, i understand now. So i can take this transformer i got:

12V 1000ma and just splice in the fans and im good to go?

Thanks man, your advice helped a lot.

You bet and with 1000 mA you can power probably a half dozen fans. One thing you will want to make sure of though is always run from the power supply to each fan. If you daisy chain or go from fan to fan you cut the voltage each time so the fans will run slower.
