I have a 180 gallon tank with a 100 gallon rubbermaid plastic stock tank as a sump. I have about 35 red mangroves i need to plant. My 100 gallon sump dumps into a 45 gallon glass tank that is plumbed to feed back to the main tank. I really don't have room in it i am pretty sure to keep all the mangroves without the roots causing problems. The 100 gallon tank is about 2 ft to the sand bed or so. I need to figure out a good way to plant these in there.
I had two ideas:
1. Hang a plastic storage container(a shallow one that is for under a bed, etc.) on the side and let them sit in it with them sticking out of a piece of styrofoam(cut to shape of the container) and put holes in the sides for the water to flow through(maybe even put a powerhead in the side to push water through).
2. Put a deep contaner in that i could pile full of substrate or rock and set them in so that the stems and leaves would be above water. Or maybe just finish filling with rock and set them on top of rock?
Any other good suggestions?? I really need to get this done. They are currently just sitting in my 45 gallon sump piled kind of on each other and i don't think it is doing them any good.
