I bought a large frag of monti danae one week ago. The tank it came out of has multiple 14000K 250 watt metal halide lights. The frag itself had a burgundy color flesh with red/orange polyps.
My tank has twin 150 watt 10000K metal halides and I have the coral on the top shelf. The burgundy flesh is getting lighter and the polyps are extending well. With the flesh getting lighter is the frags dieing or what.
I have several other sps in this tank and some have some large areas of new growth.
Anybody have changing monti color experiences?
Thanks,
Randy

My superman's polyps faded from bright red to orange in a few days after introducing it, its now under 250w 20000k DE halide. I dont know what it was under during aquaculture however. I expect the colors to change a bit over the next few weeks, nothing to worry about. I think yours will probably do the same.

i would say move it down if it is getting lighter

gbchiclids.. dun think your one is dying/bleaching.... its probably adjusting itself to ur tank condition,... leave it alone ... will most likely grow...

Definitely what sin05 omar said, watch for new growth over the next couple weeks, if you see any new polyps you're in good shape IMO, the color will probably adjust later

I got a nice chunk of monti, about 2" x 2", from I guy who had nothing but old VHOs and it was burgundy flesh with orange/brown poylps. The flesh got lighter and is now blue and the polyps are green, yellow, and red on the edges - it turned into rainbow monti over the course of 2-3 months! It is spreading very fast now across the rock I epoxied it to.

Thanks reefers for the responses. Kind of reinforced what I thought as acclimating to a different tank but wanted to make sure.

Going from 14K to 10K can fry your corals, adjust your photo cycle accordingly. What you had slightly in your favor was the lower wattage... just be careful going from 14K to 10K for the same amount of hours.

Excellent point, mediahound.
