I have a new toadstool leather that was added to my tank yesterday. It is a yellow toadstool about 3-4 inches. It has been opened wide and looking great. I just added frozen brine shrimp to the tank for the true percula clown to eat and the leather shriveled all up to this greenish looking blob. No more tenticles are out and it is a totally different color. What happened to it?

It sounds like it just closed up, hard to tell though, just by the discription. I would give it some time to open back up to be sure. I dont think the food itself would have triggered it to close.

I know when I feed, all sorts of things start coming out of the rockwork, maybe something annoyed it enough to close??

Sometimes softies take awhile to adjust. Make sure all your parameters are good, be patient but be wary when leather starts sloughing off heavy slime.(bad sign)

Wow it freaked me out! Yesterday we got our first ever corals. We got the toadstool, blue mushroom, palythoa polyps, a beautiful colt leather, and multicolor ricordea. I am still way new to corals. We have had our fowlr set up for several years but corals are our new thing in this nano tank.

Thank you makavelli911! It is actually starting to poke out a little bit. Should I give it some marine snow or is it enough just eating a little bit of frozen foods I put in for the clown? The same with the other corals. Should I give them some snow?

mysis shrimp are a little big for a toadstool---it probably reacted to the touch of them. You will find this is natural behaviour--if you brush by them or something touches them they will shrivel up and retract their polyps until they feel the danger is over
