I was wondering what people thought was the most reliable brand of test kits for testing calcium?

I really like Tropic Marin and Salifert test kits.

There's a lot of opinions on test kits. Red Sea seems to have a bad reputation, and I didn't have good luck with my kits. I use mostly Salifert and Hach test kits, at this point, but Instant Ocean and API test kits get decent reviews, too.

Salifert is the best I have used

Terrible translation, but HERE (http://www.mbenassireef.com/?p=25) is a site where an independant German site tested hobby test kits and found Elos to be very accurate. Heads and tails above Salifert, and even beating D&D/Merrick at the PO4 tests...

As I mentioned in another thread, these kinds of tests are interesting, but they tend to have various problems, and they also tend to contradict each other, so I don't put much weight on them.

Why do think the ELOS kits are better than Salifert???

Presonaly I always have thought the Saliferts were very well designed. The 1ml syringe and the presumed precision. And they last forever...

The Elos are accurate, I can tell that. But the "count the drops" method reminds me so much of cheaper test kits, and how we used to test 20 years ago...

However the quality of my last Salifert Alk test kit was so poor, it flared up my "bilk the reefers endless pockets" bug...

I still really like their Mg test, and it seems accurate as always...
