To Elos,

I think I have a bad Magnesium Test Kit and I would like some direction. I have had the kit for approximately 6 months and use it about every 3 weeks or so. The past two times I have used it I can not get the color to change when I hit my Mag level?

I have tested it against two other test kits and I get my proper test readings, however as soon as I go back to my Elos I do not get any readings and/or color change.

Can you please inform me of what may be wrong. The test kit expires on 2/10 and is hand written on the back of the box? The kit was stored properly like all my other test kits.

Thanks and I look forward to your reply.

very hard to say. Perhaps,
- vial not well rinsed with freshwater before storage and contaminating the sample
- adding 5ml of test water by mistake instead of 3ml
- powder left open by mistake
- not shaking the reagents before use.

If it was working properly and now it does not than it must be something in the procedure or the kit that has changed somehow. Sorry I couldn't be more help and let me know what you find out. Feel free to call if you want to go over it in detail and I would also talk to the retailer to see if this is something that they have experienced.

Ok, I am an idiot. My mistake was in Option 2; using 5 mil instead of 3 mil. Must have been a brain fart my bad.

One quick question regarding the current Mag kit that I have. I have the (3) reagents kit and was wondering how I can gain more accuracy. I.E.: Can I double the water sample to 6 mil and use the same amount of reagents A & B so the C drops = 50ppm?

Thanks a bunch,
Tegee

yep this works but you will go through reagent C much quicker as you can probably guess. On the current run of kits, a reagent D is included and the process is different so this is not needed, just so the people with the current kits do not get confused.

Sounds very similar to the new Calcium test kit where you get it close to the number with reagent C and than dial it in with D.

Thank you for your help and prompt reply to my inquires.
