What skimmer would you recommend?

Thanks,
Steve

Most likely tank would be stocked on the heavy side.

Thanks,
Steve

What about a MSX 300 Skimmer? Same as the Octo Extreme NW 300...?

SteveJakubiec
10/27/2008, 05:14 PM
BUMP...anyone answer if I could use the MSX 300 alone, on Marine Solutions it says that it is up to 315 gallons heavily stocked, and I think my stock would be moderately which on marine solutions it says it could go up to 415 gallons moderately stocked or something close to that.

Thanks,
Steve

What kind of money do have to spend on a skimmer?

SteveJakubiec
10/27/2008, 06:27 PM
Looking to spend 600-1000, may even go to 1,200. Not too sure.

This is what I am running on my 300 gallon, well worth the money and sturdy enough to run ozone through it:

jnc,

can you get a picture of the otherside of your skimmer that isn't shown in the picture on that website, I am actually very interested in this skimmer and am glad you brought it up.

Is an ATB medium better than the ATI BM 250? What about the ATI BM 300?

Thanks,
Steve

The Atb it's a great skimmer and build very well also the customer service by Victor great every person that have it love it , but if you compare the perfromance then IMO the BM 250 will out perform the ATB medium and as i saw they reduce the prices to... then the 300 will be excellent choose for the money you want to spend or if you can add more money go with the ATB large . IMO the medium is small for 500 gallon total system.

SteveJakubiec

My thing is a 350g Total system.

Again IMO if you look on the ATB medium i think it's small for this size of tank .and if you choose one of this company i was going with the ATB large or the BM300 for this system , or 2 ATB medium .

SteveJakubiec

Probably BM 300 then

mavgi

IMO yes on this skimmer body there is 3 pump and they will collect more detritus..... and no fear with heavy bio load .

For the ATI BM 300, is there a comparable skimmer that can be run externally or does it have to be in sump? Also, do you know if it could fit in the marineland Deep dimension 300g Stand demensions are 72"x36"x27" for the stand.

Because the ATI BM 300 most likely owuldn't fit under my stand, any other comparable skimmers.

Oh and looking at the most to spend $1,600 not more than $1,800.

mavgi

The BM skimmer build just for Sump if you want external look for other skimmer.... there is a lot good other skimmer like the BK , ATB , H&S , WM, that can run external . but if you look on less watt use you need to look on the ATB or the BK external they will have less watt use then the other.

I realy don't know if it will fit in the marineland sump you need to look on the dimension on the skimmer base and to see if you have this space in the sump.

SteveJakubiec
10/28/2008, 08:34 AM
If I have too, I will build my own sump, I just need options on a Skimmer shorter than 27", preferably shorter than 25" if it'll be in sump, or if external any height, but must be around $1,600.

Thanks,
Steve

mavgi
10/28/2008, 09:23 AM
The Bk are excellent skimmer.

you can build your own sump and get the space you want.

you also can order a custom skimmer in this price range with Sicce , Laguna pump , or Ehiem pump build very well and from a person that you can trust on him 100% .

since i don't want to post advertising here.... you can send me PM and i will tell you who to contact. he can build you any skimmer size you want and in very good prices to.

What's better:

ATB LARGE
BK 300 External

And also, can the ATB LARGE be run externally, or what?

Both are good skimmer and both have good customer service you can't go wrong with those skimmer .
the Atb can run External to .

If the ATB can run externally, I am leaning towards that one...seems like a BEAST.

The ATB's are available externally. The ATB Large External costs a tad bit more than your previously discussed budget.

Here is a pic of a Large External.

the large is about 26 1/2" tall. How tall can you get away with?

SteveJakubiec
10/28/2008, 02:39 PM
I am not sure, getting the specs of the stand now, but how much clearance does it need?

gcarroll
10/28/2008, 02:47 PM
I would say 27.5" would be the minimum.

SteveJakubiec
10/28/2008, 02:55 PM
That's enough to take the cup off?

gcarroll
10/28/2008, 03:03 PM
yeah but as I stated, that is the minimum. I mean bare minimum.

SteveJakubiec
10/28/2008, 03:18 PM
Ugh I need to find out the clearance for the marineland deep dimension 300g....on the stand.

SteveJakubiec
10/28/2008, 04:12 PM
Ok...I got the question guys.

The Skimmer is 25" Tall
The Stand is 27" Tall..

is that enough clearance to take the skimmer cup off? Victor @ ATB said I only need aroud an inch, but not too sure.

gcarroll
10/28/2008, 04:13 PM
is the stand 27" tall on the inside?

SteveJakubiec
10/28/2008, 04:21 PM
I am not sure, I just got this informaiton off of the website:

72"x36"x27" Size of Stand, not sure on the inside, but would you think it would be more or less...?
