I've read that they do kind of brown up for some people.
I understand from reading around that the purple ones color up with lower light. I wonder if any experts here can say.

Here are mine. I have them in extremely high light. I have some color vision problems so...... they look purple to me.

I have two frags of purple death from my mother colony placed in different locations - one in direct light and the other with shade both on the sandbed. The one in direct light has turned brown-ish.

Not sure if it makes a difference for the color, but the deep purple one seems to be in a location where it can catch more food too.

I have them in a 40 br with a 10K 250 w bulb over them and they are purple as can be.

I keep mine in low light. They have kept a nice lighter purple color. Mine wouldnt even open under the direct lights from my T5 fixture, so I have no idea what "bright" light would do to them.

Mine under 8 T5s high up turned to brown with hints of purple... now they stay all the way at the bottom.

bottom of tank does best for me as well as far as color.
