Thats it...

Ive got Red Cyano and according to: http://www.athiel.com/lib/cya.html

...It has its optimum growth at wavelengths of 555-564 nm. Right now ive got 2 T5 actinics with a great deal of salt creep. Ive also got a 150 10k HQI.

Will the Salt creep raise or lower the nm wavelength? Im obv going to give the lamps a thorough cleaning anyways..but im just curious.

Thanks,

-Nate

Salt creep on your tubes is the least of your worries with Cyano.

They say cyano does BEST at those wavelengths, right?

They will also do well at other PAR wavelengths.

how old are your bulbs?

You've got a water quality problem, not a light problem. Cyano only grows when you have excessive nutrients in the water. Taking care of excess nutrients requires work on many fronts: more efficient skimming, more water changes (with clean RO/DI water), reduced feeding, increased flow, etc . . .

i think that water can do this, but i also ran mh's for about 15 months and boom i got red cyano.. (water params had not changed) i replaced the bulbs and within a week red cyano went away.. now mind you there wasnt a water change done.. so IMO bulbs thats shift can do this..

i do regular water changed with my own rodi. b-ionic is used regularly. 29 gallon reef tank has medium hang on cpr refugium with modded cpr backpack into it. sps is growing extremely fast.

phosphates and nitrates are immeasurable, pH is 8.4 during the day and 8.3 at night with the refugium on reverse night day. ca is 440, alk is at 11 and the bulbs are 10 mo old.

in which direction will the salt creep change the spectrum of the actinics. thanks.

i dont think salt creep has anything to do with the red cyano
