Either super glue gel (cyanoacrylate) or the two part epoxy sold in most LFS.

I use BSI IC-GEL for most small frags.

It may injure a fish or invert if it gets uncured glue on it, but in 99% of instances this would be a temporary issue and go away once the glue came off (a few days). considering that superglue was originally invented as a replacement for stitches, I would not be concerned about toxic issues with cyanoacrylate.

For the two part epoxy - how do you determine if its reef safe? I know they sell it at the LFS, but the price is insanely marked up compared to 'normal' epoxy and I wouldn't be surprised if it was basically the same thing.

You hold the frag for a minute or two out of water while glueing. It does most of the hardening while inside the tank.

when using superglue you want to squirt some water on it after applying. due to the heat it causes during the curing process

+1 cyanoacrylate is reef safe. It's in super glue, Loc tite, etc..
I perfer the gel because it's the easiest to use. My favorite brand is whatever is cheapest. Walmart usually has small tubes for $.99.

Yep, gel dries very quickly underwater. For frags, I do a bit of a sandwitch. First gel, then a bit of epoxy and then more gel. The gel dries quick and secures the frag to the rock and the frag disk. The expoy dries a bit slower but locks the frag in place better than just super glue gel. I use the Loctite gel and Aquamend expoy as I can get them both at Home Depot.

Super glue gel does dry underwater. So does two part epoxy. They're both good to have on hand and useful for different applications.

People complain about epoxy not sticking but they're just using it wrong. It won't stick flat surfaces together nor hold large rocks together in most cases. It works good when there are rough surfaces and crevices for it to cling to.

SG is good for gluing little frags to rocks or even some smaller rocks together. Its forms a skin when exposed to water so if applying in the tank you'll need to work to break the skin to get things to stick. If possible its best used dry.

A combination of epoxy and SG is also a good combo in many cases.

For two part many people use Aquamend from Lowes or HD etc. Its safe and only about $2.

I think the small tubes of super glue gel for about a buck are the best. You don't have to worry about them drying up.
