This is a picture of a tri-color valida in my qt tank. It is brown because of a dip in TMPCC last week. All paramaters are fine. What is this white spot on it?

Looks like some type of sponge or bacterial growth.

This is a guess but it could be coming from the coral as in mesomential filiments or what ever they are called. It would be wierd and its a guess but how fast did this happen because if it happened fast you pretty much rule out sponge and it doesnt look slimey enough to be bacterial.

This is something I noticed that happened overnight. I did do a dip in coral revive yesterday, but I'm not sure that had anything to do with it. My other frags handled the dip well.

Its probably the corals tissue fluffing off

What are you meaning by "fluffing off?" What could this be from?

my first guess would be mesenterial filaments as well.

But I have never seen them quite that thick, and the coral appears to have necrosis in other places as well. Could be a number of things going on, related or not

I've read that mesenterial filaments are something that has to do with aggression with other corals. Any reasons why it would be producing this in a qt tank with a few other frags? I've also read these filaments will be produced if the coral is looking to feed?

Personally I feel it is more of a defense mechanism then a feeding response. Probably brought on from the harsh conditions with QT and dip.

It could be a fugal infection growing on unhealthy coral tissue- I raise this possibility due to the bleaching of some of the lower branches.

If you have not already, I would try and pick it clean with some tweezers or frag off that bad area, that is what I would do and go from there. Agree though that it doesn't look that great around the bottom area, unless it is just damage from glueing???.
Good luck with it, I hope it makes it for you.

The bottom area is just excess glue that got on some of the lower tips. thats why it may look white with necrosis to some.

I thought it may have been something like that being so close to the glue. Good luck with it.

i have noticed tonight that the area has necrosis with no tissue left. I am going to frag the affected area and see what happens.
