It is coming on spring when Hemisquilla ensigera in southern California breed. At this time they are more likely to be out and about. This means that divers and trawlers catch them more frequently. You might remember that last spring live Hemisquilla showed up at various Ranch 99's selling for $10/lb.

I have a favor to ask. If anyone from San Diego to Santa Barbara encounters any live Hemisquilla, we are in real need of them for some communication experiments we are running. We need them alive and healthy, so if you see any, please contact me ASAP. Hemisquilla need to be kept cool - around 60 F. I can pay a reasonable finders fee plus shipping. Thanks.

Gondy-
Trawled, hook & line or store bought?
I see many many of these in the SaMo Bay.
Especially north.
And they're starting to become more active like you said.
I wonder if our "local" triggerfish target these guys or just our other various local crustaceans.
More of those around lately as well, and its hard for me to just credit el nino.

Regards,
Noel
