The lights just came on in the fuge!!!!

I turned it off...running a filter w/poly...

What would cause this?????

I trimmed the celerupa 2-3 days ago.

75 gallon fuge
4" sand
very slow flow
tlf reactor full of carbon

Ca 450
alk 10.5 dkh
Mg 1300

The display is perfectly clear, the sump is clean, skimmer is working normal, SPS, LPS, palys all very happy.

any ideas will help, thanks for reading!!!???

fuge 12am-1pm
daylight 3pm-11pm
actinic 1pm-1am

I hope this isn't why everyone switched to cheatomorph.

Looks like holocarpy... I'd cut it off from your system if it's in a separate tank, empty it all and start fresh with chaeto and no sand.

I believe not_sponsored is saying your caulpera is going sexual.

its a phytoplankton bloom most likely. UV sterolizer ,ozone or a diatom filter will take care of it in hours.

look at before and after:

I just got a new tank and this will be the first time I'm running a fuge. I was planning to put chaeto & sand in it for filtration. Should I set it up without sand?

There's an easy way to tell what it is. If your caulerpa leaves look white or clear, it may have gone sexual.

Otherwise it's a phytoplankton bloom, likely nanochloropsis. That's not necessarily a bad thing since it's good copepod food. It will pass in time. Heck, I pay actual money to add live "green water" to my tank.
