just unpacked it...

the manual included in the box was for The Ultimate DI System, so i just downloaded the correct manual and am printing it out.

if you want to track this issue for quality control purposes, the invoice number is 155285.

excited to dig in and see this system at work!

Tony,

Thank you for that feedback, I will put it to good use.

So, have you got the UHE running, yet? Any questions?

So I just got the UHE cooking tonight. (Literally making water for cooking my new rock... :-)

Here are my questions:

1) is there going to be a problem if one of the clips to the RO membrane and the rubber support for the pump are broken? mine came like that. i'll post pics in a second. the metal frame is a little warped as well. the package wasn't particularly beat up -- but perhaps with this heavy pump in place, the unit needs to be packaged differently. (seemed to packaged the same as my previous MaxCap DI.)

2) the unit seems to be working and making a little more than 3 gallons an hour which is about right at a waste to product ratio of 2:1. (my native TDS here runs around 100). let me know if this sounds low or if it's about right.

3) the manual is great! way way better than my previous system! thank you! one question tho. in a "Note:" right after the step where i reinstall the last DI cartridge, it mentions that the unit will need to flush around 2 gallons before i can "use" the product water. however, I'm not clear on how to cause this to happen. I did try putting the High sensor in the "wet" postion, but that only had the effect of stopping the unit. I left it like that for 10 minutes but no flush. Does it need to run for a full 24 cycle before it flushes itself? is there a procedure for triggering a flush cycle?

Tony,

1) I'm sorry about that. We'll do whatever you think is necessary to make it all right. I'll convey your concerns about the packaging to the shipping department.

2) With a TDS of 100, you should be able to reduce the waste-to-product ratio down to 1-to-2 (1 waste to 2 product).

3) You can disconnect the product tube from the reservoir and, with the two floats dry, you should be able to direct the product stream to a drain.

If you try to "fool" it by only pulling the high float up, the computer thinks something is wrong because you can't have a wet upper float and a dry bottom float, so it just shuts down without a flush.

It will do a flush when it goes through a sequence that starts with two dry floats, then a wet lower float, and then two wet floats.

oops - typo on my part - i am indeed running 1:2 (waste to product)

i'll try to simulate a real scenario (two dry, lower float, high float) now.

as far as replacement parts, looking at the unit it may be a nightmare to try and remove and replace the bracket under the pump... my only concern obviously is that we have a small quake and the pump falls off the bracket and yanks something open unleashing a flood. (this of course would only happen when i'm out of town on vacation. :-)

i'll see if i can secure it some other way -- perhaps a simple tie-wrap will do the trick.

here's a very random question. would there be any possibility to trade my existing MaxCap RO/DI 180 system up for a UHE (i could pay the difference). i'd like to have a second unit as a standby/backup. My 180 is still on it's first set of membranes, it's only been used to produce about 200 gallons total!

We are updating MAXCap RO/DI systems to the UHE for $550 and your system shipped back to us.

You will have to store one of those membranes, wrapped up tightly in the refrigerator until you need it. The UHE is designed to work with one membrane. Only if you had really cold water with no hope of acually making even 120 GPD, could we use two membranes.

no worries - i wasn't expecting a dual membrane UHE...

so, would this be a new UHE unit?

It would use your old parts, but have a "new" warranty.
We'll put all 4 new vertical filters in, so leave them behind.
