finally a reef/zoo question

I finally have my first coral, some zoos that I got at a local club meeting, I am curious about how long it should take them to open after being fragged and transplanted. I am just wondering when to start worrying about them. all water specs check out except for nitrates floating around 7ppm but that is typical for my tank and was told zoos would not care too much about that.

My guess is that most zoos will open by the next day, but it could happen sooner or later. In many cases they will open back up on the same day.

Like KarlBob said, you may see some polyps open the same day, or they may stay closed for a couple of days. It may take several days for them to get happy and all open up real big. You should be attentive to their light situation, though - if they are from a relatively low-light tank, and you have them at the top under halides, they're not going to want to open.

good call on the light, they were under 150ish of t-5 in a shallow tank, now i have them under 260w of pc in a deeper tank. I fed cyclops to try to entice them but only one polyp semed to open the littlest bit. frightened but hungry i guess. The fragging was probally rather traumatic for them, it was a bit violent! its been about 24hrs since placement. o well maybe tomorow

If you try to feed them with a turkey baster they most likely won't open for a while because they don't like strong current. They prefer to catch their prey when it lands on their disc but I don't believe they need to be fed.

I have actually had a couple of frags that have taken a few days to open up. sometimes i just move them around to different spots and they end up opening. the worst is when you buy some that have never opened before lol, long story

i would leave them alone. If they havent opened up in a week you should worry

i have about 4 polyps opening 1/2 way and one opened all the way but closed when i fed my clowns their garlic soaked food. its been about 4 days so i anticipate even a better showing tomorrow.
