How much ATO water do you need a week?

I have a decent size chamber in my sump, and I feel like every 3 days its almost empty. I cant seem to find a leak anywhere. Just wondering what on average (gallons) people think they lose a week..

Alot depends on lights, room temp, how you cool the tank, etc


On my 75g w/ 29g sump ... I loose about 1g a day

I evap about a gallon a day in my 54g tank/30 g sump.
This is necessary for cooling.

You need to stabilize that topoff supply so you don't get a corresponding salinity spike in your tank. Especially inverts can die of that, and it doesn't help fish health, either. A good automatic topoff unit (doesn't have to be high end) will supplement by the teaspoonful.

You can also do some of your necessary dosing via your topoff water. To help you much more, we need info; can you fill out your My Rc section, so your tank specs etc will appear in a sig line? THat way you don't have to answer questions over and over.

120g tank 48"x24" open top. 2 - 250w halides, 4 - 54w T-5s, 30g sump open top. Room temp is 70F. No chillers, or fans.

The good thing is I dont have any fish or corals in the tank. Its been cycling for a few weeks now. Im trying to setup everything right before I add anything.

My tank is a 90gal with 55g sump. Im debating on a ATO for it, but im not sure what I want to do. I really dont want to hook it up directly to my RO unit. I have a 15 gal tank im thining about using with just a plain float valve on the sump.

I use a JBJ ATO unit on mine ... works extremely well and tops off as necessary ... for the 1g I loose a day it probably turns on 3-4 times during the day to keep things in check

with all the fans on i evap about 4 gals a day.. 1250 watts of light, 145 gals total water.

i loose about 3 gallons a day from my 125 with about 75 gallons in sump. i would just get into the habit of topping off every night!

I bought the ATO kit from www.aquahub.com and am happy with it. Take it, an empty 5G salt bucket, some 1/2" tubing from home depot and a cheap power head, hook them together and stick it in the closet. Little bit of work putting the kit together but it was fun and easy.

The one thing to be careful with is ensure the feed line to the tank/sump is above the water line in the bucket or once the pump starts, it'll siphon and flood or overfill. Also make sure the end is above water so you don't get a siphon the other way.

I use an old salt bucket for my top off reservoir, and 5g last me approx 3 days on a 92g sumpless system.

Try to find a peristaltic pump (IV type) and you wont need the top off to be above the water line and there isn’t a siphon issue to worry about.

I go evaporate about 1.5 gal per day on a 75gal DT and 30gal sump.

I have about 220g total. Water temp is 78-82. I use about 11g a week in summer months, about 9 now. JBJ auto topoff.
