Hi all,

We currently have a nice sea fan in our tank. It was doing great for the first week with the polyps coming out.

Recently my hubby noticed that the hermit crabs have been crawling all over the sea fan and eating the tissue leaving only the skeleton exposed.

The tank is feed on a regular basis and the hermits have inhabited the tank for many months now.

Any help would be appreciated on how to prevent this from further happening.

I would venture to say they are just cleaning up scraps and the thing was in poor health for some reason.

Its not very often you will see me standing up for crabs, as I think all that arent commensal suck, but in this case........

Out of curiousity, is it a non- photosynthetic gorg?? They are tough to keep without going out fo your way to do so.
