Hey guys quick question. I have had this pink urchin I got from the beach here in Florida. Bathtub beach in Martin county to be precise. I have had this guy for years and never fed him anything. But he has become a bulldozer lately and I have put him in my frag tank. Any ideas on what kind of food I should be feeding him? He is not a pencil urchin just a pink ball with two inch spines his body is a darker pink then his spines. I am suddenly concerned with his feeding because I also have a royal urchin and a longspine urchin in there as well its only a 40 gallon tank. With about 20-30 pounds of live rock and two grazing fish. What is a good food that possibly all three urchins will be interested in? Thanks for any help.

you need as much algea as possible. are you rocks bare? if theres not enough algea to go around you can get nori sheets and rubberband them around a rock. Or you could just run your light on a 24 photo period :)

I have three urchins that I collected in Ft. Pierce. They're in my 75 FOWLR that is all natural, water, rocks, sand, fish, inverts. All collected locally. The urchins do a good job mowing the algae in my tank. You can see their nightly progress every morning, with bare spots on the rocks. I don't do anything special for them, but I do feed nori to the fish occasionally, and any scraps are left to settle where they may, to be consumed by the cleanup crew.
BTW- it's a shame what Bathtub Beach has become- it used to be a fantastic place to snorkel..The worm reef there will never be the same.
