Anthony Calfo had a great post about trapping fish that brought up some "brilliant" ideas. The title of the thread is "How to Catch Fish and Critters in Displays." It was in the Advanced Topics forum. I don't know how to link to it here, but if you search for it I'm sure you'll find it.

wait until 3 in the morning when they are basically half asleep, sneak into the tank room and net them before they get chance to wake up

hhah.. a grouper... :)

What I would do is I'd cut the tank in half or a third. So another words if the tank was 72" long.. i'd trap him with some acrylic.. 36", and then make his room smaller and smaller until you could easily get him. Should take you no longer than an hour to get him.

spear them with a wooded shishkabob skewer. joking :) but you could try to go a day or two without feeding them and then place the net into the waters edge for a few hours to get them used to it. then when you feed them while they are distracted at the top scoop them out. it just takes patience thats for sure but better then the other option of tearing down the rocks.

Here's that article that WrinkleFree mentioned. You can drain the tank, catch the fish and fill it back up again in minutes. Read the whole thread.

NOTE: To you newbies...here's why we always say, "Don't put Damsels in your tank to start the cycle."

Check out page 2 of my 90 Gallon tank thread(click the red house)-I have had good success so far with this method...you will see my trap in the full tank shot...I think the method I am using is a good way to catch any fish with as little stress on them a possible...

4 down/4 to go for me...
