renew live rock

A friend is looking at a 90 gal tank, stand, and about 150 lbs of live rock. The problem is the tank is about 6 or 7 years old and completly full of hair algae. I mean about a 3 inch lawn covers everything. Can this rock be cleaned up and used again if all new water and tank totally cleaned and overhauled?

The live rock will most likey at a minimum need to be (cooked) This is a process that places the Phosphate laden LR In a No Light environment possibly for months. Try doing a google search on Cooking Live Rock.
