Has anyone else tried the new Marineland in sump skimmer? I've had one running in my sump for the last week and I either get nothing or a very watery skimmate that overflows the cup in 10 minutes.
I chose the skimmer d/t very limited space. Any thoughts on another skimmer with a small footprint?

Not familiar with this skimmer at all but in general it takes about 3 weeks for a skimmer to break in and start to produce a thick foamy skimmate. I would wait a few more weeks and see what you get. Just keep the water level down so that you don't keep overflowing it. It also depends in bio load so if you don't have much livestock it will take even longer.

I have never had a seaclone myself, but their rep is that they are very finicky and not very productive.
How much room do you have? The Remora/Urchin skimmers deserve a look, as do ASM and EuroReef. These skimmers are all pretty easy to hit that sweet spot with.

If your talking about the marineland marine series in up skimmers they are no seaclone and have nothing in common.

these work fairly well. in a week you havent likely even broken it in yet. leave the water level below the collection cup and stop playing with it. trying to make it skim before its going to (any skimmer) is counter productive.
