I had problems with both and started dosing ESV B-Ionic two part solution. It worked aut great. It was easy and not to expensive...

I've heard mixed reports on kalkwasser and calcium and alkalinity. You can try, but you could end up with one higher than the other. I would stick with two part as you can control the increase individually.

Go with Bionic to get both levels right THEN drip kalk to help maintain them... (You'll still have to dose Bionic as well)

Dose calcium chloride as a one time fix to get both numbers where you want them and use kalk to maintain them, as long as the kalk can keep up with the calcium demands of your tank.

calcium chloride will not raise alkalinity, only calcium. Kalk will raise both equally.

to raise one over the other use two part.

a great book is "the Reef Aquarium" volume III by Julian Sprung and Charles Delbeek.

covers this topic in great detail. the best money a reefer can spend to learn.

You need to raise them individually, and then kalk can be used to maintain their levels.

+1, Kalk ONLY maintains the levels once they are where you want them, and as long as you're demand isn't to high.

Here is a great article on making some 2 part, that is very economical. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-02/rhf/index.php

Get the levels where you want them, then use kalk in you're top off.

Here is another great site to figure out how much you will need to get the levels where you want them.

Just use baking soda to raise your alk. The calculator linked above will tell you how much to use.

i agree... dripping kalk alone will not raise your levels. First raise the ca and alk by one of the methods listed in the replies. then once your levels are achieved you can drip kalk to maintan them levels. but you still may need to dose ca and alk to keep them up. the best way to keep them up in my opinion is with a ca reactor tho they are not the cheapest.
