Even in a six foot tank, I think you would be on the edge sizewise. The Paracanthurus Heppatus(Hippo) can grow to 12 inches and the Naso literatus to 18. With open aquascape and very strong skimming and filtration it might be ok.

From what I've seen of nasos they tend to be collected larger and attain more of their potential adult size in captivity then Hippos.

A friend of mine has anoth naso species vlamingi (sp?) in a 180 and it is getting huge.

I would pass on that.

Many many years ago I held an adult Naso for a friend for about a week. It was in my 75 ( which is only 2 feet shorter then a 125 ), and after seeing it swim, there is no way I would ever even consider one for anything less then a 10 foot tank. They just get so big, and are so fast, I was shocked at how quickly it would go from one end of the tank to the other. Heck, I could hear it moving back and forth, and the wave it generated was pretty darn big.

Agreed, But if you get a small one ie 1" or so it could adapt and live for a couple of years before it outgrows the tank. Some will adapt and only grow so large but most will continue to grow
and become to large for a tank that size.

Very good and responsible decision. IMO, very few home aquaria are suited to one of these fish. There are many others which would do well in your system.

I'd have to agree. I have a Naso in a 48" 125g tall. He's grown from 3" to about 8" in less then a year.

I have a 72" 180g for him that I need to setup.

I love mine. He has a lot of character.

He does a shimmy dance every night before the light goes out. He's also been creating "bow waves" on the surface lately. I think he's just using all the available space in the tank.
