UV Sterilizer

Hey,

I just put a uv sterilizer on my reef tank. Some say leave it on 24/7 and others say run it only when the lights are on. What is the best?

24/7 if your trying to kill something otherwise leave it off and extend the bulb life.

Rob I run mine 24/7. The use of a UV sterilizer is always a debate. There are those who believe in it if used properly and those who think it has no use.

If you are trying to eradicate something (parasite, bacteria, algae) or have added new livestock recently run it 24/7. If your fish don't have an infection and you don't have any water quality isues leave it off completely and conserve the life of the bulb.

I used one for yrs but recently stopped. I have honestly seen no difference. I think it s a safty blanket
