I am looking for a test kit for Dkh. Which would be better carbonate hardness or alkalinity? Which brand do you prefer?

Thanks,
AJ

Good question. Randy Holmes-Farley answers your question about carbonate Hardness & total alkalinity in the following link:

What is Alkalinity

The API (Aquarium Pharmaceuticals) Alkalinity kit works good for reefing and is inexpensive.

There are no real tests for carbonate hardness around. All are total alkalinity tests, and that is what you want (regardless of the units or what the kit says it is).

Seachem has a test where you measure borate alkalinity and subtract it from total to get carbonate alkalinity, but that is not accurate, IME.
