I have a 300 gallon stock tank for my sump. I want to add an auto top off to control evap and add kalk. The issue is that the tank has to evap several gallons before the ATO kicks in and I don't want to add that much kalk at once. Is there anyway around this?

You could use a separate ATO on a Timer ... Tom's does 3.5 gallons an hour, so you could set a multiday timer (or something) based on your evap rate ... or just put in a separate float.

I would focus on control evap first, DIY a cover or something. i have seen a couple on here and on other sites.

get a Tunze ATO, much more accurate, also baffle off the return section and that will be the only one that changes water level, and that will help the ATO only add enough to fill the small section.

GSMguy- do you have any examples of what you are talking about?

How would I add baffles to a 300 gall rubbermaid stock tank?

I would recommend RO/DI topoff, with kalk/RO/DI on a timer during the night. With that size of tank and likely evaporation, in my opinion it would be more stable to avoid different evaporation rates and in turn drastically changing kalk dosing.

Thanks, that's the direction I think I'm going to have to go.
