I've happened to notice my small frag of green star polyps starting to wilt like a flower would. What could be causing this? all of my values are good

amm - 0
nitrite - 0
nitrate - 0
phos - < .2 ( a little high but a water change is around the corner)
salinity - 1.0255
alk - 10
calc - 430ish

I recently changed out the bulbs on my fixture. I have a 4x65 power compact fixture. The new actinic (460nm) bulbs appear significantly greener than the previous bulbs in my fixture. The polyps are up high in my tank about 8" from the water surface and about another 6" to the bulbs. I changed the bulbs last week and started noticing this about 2 days ago.http://http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i287/Bigjohn_03/CIMG0801.jpghttp://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i287/Bigjohn_03/CIMG0801.jpg (http://)http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i287/Bigjohn_03/CIMG0801.jpg

They could be adjusting the the new bulbs which are stronger then your old bulbs.

Is there anything I can do? I don't want to lose them

you won't lose them. they will grow in a toilet if you threw a light over it. you could decrease your photoperiod temporarily, or lower the GSPs for a few weeks.

I wouldnt worry about them, they'll adjust and come back. If not, let me know and I'll put some in an envelope and mail them to you. ;) Like the good captain indicates, they're nearly indestructible.

well I dunno if I can lower them anyways. I super glued the frag to a large rock near the top of my tank and the frag has already taken root. The foot or mat if you will, (you can see it in the pic) has really taken a hold. The rock is way too big to move lower with out redoing all of my rock work.

Another question for you... I just recently purchased a T5 retro kit and plan on installing 4 bulbs in place of my PCs. My question is... Is that too much light w/ those polyps being as high as they are? Can you ever have too much light?

Just like CRVS said.... it's very very hard to kill GSP the best in your situation..... shorten the photo period by about 25 - 50% and then increase by about 1/2 hour every other day. You should see improvement. if not, add more days in between upping the light time. as for changing out to T5. do the same thing. start in the 5 hour range and up it about every 2-4 days by about 1/2 hour. watch your other coral for stress. you could always frag a piece and put it lower in the tank. it will survive.

"they're nearly indestructible" well i wish that was true, I just cant seem to keep gsp. I have other corals just fine but gsp or any polyps like it die off. i could use some in the mail. :)

You may try cleaning them with a powerhead sometimes algae can build up on them and they will start to dissapear or look unhealthy.

I wish mine would wilt and dissappear. Mine came on a piece of rock the size of a golf ball and now its trying to take over. It dont care what it grows over and you can sit and watch it growing and spreading. I guess its time to try to scrape it off of the rocks
