Sooo ... I was installing a new DE 250W HQI Bulb and as I was pushing it into the socket the little piece of plastic that covers the contacts on one end broke off.

Any issues with running it like that?

I have broke a few of them just as you described. I had no issues with the lights. Without a pic hard to say but if it still fits and most of the plastic is encasing the ends its probably ok.

It should have been ceramic not plastic, you should be fine

Yes, ceramic ... sorry ... it's just the little piece that sits on the right and left sides of the bulb that you can push on to get it into the socket. It basically covers the socket opening. Just broke one of them off. I figured it'd be fine, but though I'd ask just to be sure. ;)

Thanks all!

I've broken a few and used them without problems.

Thanks! It's a shame no one has invented an easier socket design for these things. I hate replacing the bulbs ... I'm always afraid I'm going to break one coming out or putting back in. :(
