Im running a mag 9.5 as my return pump and i measured it out to be 1 inch opening. Well i went out and bought 1 inch tubing got home put it on there and it seems pretty loose, i can pull it off without much struggle at all. and other problem is my bulkhead for my pvc is 3/4 inch. should i have goten 3/4 inch tubbing and forced it onto my pump ?

You could clam it. I'd think you'd be hard pressed fitting a 3/4" over the 1" - but with some prying, who knows.

Your best bet is to get a 1" PVC connector that screws onto the pump output & has the male barbed end that will fit inside of the 1" tubing.

okay thanks, what about my bulk head being 3/4 inch? LFS said to just use the little metal clamp on it and tighten it pretty good will that do just fine on that end ?

You need a 3/4 in male thread to fit into the intake.
And you need a female 3/4 inch to screw over the exit.
What are you planning to do?
Are you just going to have the retun pump sit in the sump and return through flexable tubing using hosebarbs and clamp.
What do you mean about the bulkhead? Is this on the back of the display tank ot the sump?

You can NOT put a hose clamp under water.
The saltwater will disintagrate it in no time. They sell special plastic type clamps. No metals at all,no bronze or brass either.

This one will do it.
You can get these at Home Depot.
Also note the plastic clamps.

yeah i knew i couldnt put anything metal in the water, he just ment on the bulk head out of the water just to seal the 1 inch tubing to the 3/4 inch bulkhead

I think you need to thread 3/4 into that instead of putting the hose over the outlet.Get a 3/4 inch plastic male hose barb and thread that in the pump exit and then put the hose on that.
Go 3/4 right up to the bulkhead. You'll have to ditch the 1",or use it for siphoning.

Yes,and they'll have the hose barbs that have 3/4 inch male to 3/4 inch hose barb as well.If you can't find the plastic clamps for in the sump, you can use a nylon wire tie for now.

Good luck.....

Looking at the picture again,I'm wondering if the thread needs to be female for the hose barb.
Yes,the outlet is 3/4 male thread.
You'll need a 3/4 inch FEMALE to 3/4 inch hose barb.
The thread is exterior.

You can also buy something like this if you need to use a male threaded hose barb. But in the end you wanr a 3/4 inch hose barb and hose for the return.
Hope I didn't really confuse you too much.lol
