I'm wanting to add a sump/refugium to my pond liner lined plywood/wood tank. Is it possible to use a bulkhead with a gasket between each material or is that even needed?

Bulkhead -> Gasket -> Liner -> Gasket -> Wood -> Gasket -> Bulkhead

I'm not looking to run an overflow, just don't trust them when I'm away for three days every other week. Would like to just run two bulkheads, one for water to the sump and one for the return.

Thank you!

you only need a gasket on the wet side
bulkhead -> gasket -> liner -> wood -> bulkhead nut

Thank you Rick.

Have you run across any problems doing this, if you have done it at all?

Rick is correct- I have done this with my koi holding tanks for years.

i did it in a sort of a sump, it was actually a wood basin with a pond liner below my swamp cooler pads which was fed by a float valve to keep the water level up to keep up with the evaporation.
never had any issues in over 3 1/2 years.

I have made over 1700 gallons of salt water tanks using plywood and pond liners / roofing materials. The bulkheads seal up just fine, much like a swimming pool does. If you want I could show some pic of what it looks like. Good luck
