The first month or so my new female ate anything I presented, live snails/crabs, silversides, krill, squid, market shrimp, etc. Now, unless it's live or krill, she just takes it from the prongs across the tank and dumps it in the corner for me to remove . Are live snails and frozen krill a diversified enough diet for her health?

Also, I have some turbo snails in my reef tank that have gotten large (between a golf ball and racquetball) and need to go before they wreck my tank. Could she hurt herself trying to bust those thick shells. She's about 5" and I usually give her astrea and large cerith snails.

No she knows her limits. and no that diet probably isn't good enough long term. After she deals with the snails, starve her for a while. three days would be a good starting point. then offer her something else.

You don't have to worry about your peacock hurting herself unless she just molted and even then they know not to strike (molting thread at the top by Roy). My chiragra doesn't even try to hit my turbos unless they are blocking her entrance.

As far as my peacock...... Frenchie aka Louie (everyone in the office thinks he is is some sort of 3rd world french saltwater dictator because of his 'whiskers' /shrug)

First 'great turbo snail war' lasted 2 full days and he finally gave up in defeat it was the biggest in the tank thou.

He would grab it smack it around get mad that it wouldnt fit in his cave, so he would toss it across the tank and just watch it and every once in a while try to grab the shield and pull him out.

Few weeks later during the second 'great turbo snail war' he picked on a smaller one and within 6 hours the snail was defeated.

The next month he had his revenge on the first turbo over the weekend so unsure of how long the war was, but that guy was definitely too big for him, not sure if he even ate the snail as it had messed up the tank a bit and lots was still in the shell / on the shield.

I added 2 more turbos after both the first went. These last 2 turbos that have been in the tank have been attacked a few different times and I will come in and see them turned over so unsure what is going on.

Louie/Frenchie does not try to crack the shell he does wack it at times along with the shield, but instead he try's to pull their shield out, eventually the snail gets worn out from the smacking and pulling and he digs at the meaty part of the snail, in the end the snail cant hold its shield and he digs at the fleshy part eating the turbo while it is still alive, I typically try to deter him from messing with the turbos by turning them right side up and feeding him.

Turbos are the only thing that lasts long enough to do some cleaning, he is 2-3" and the turbos are about the size of ping pong balls, I get the biggest I can find, but thinking the big ones have bigger gaps in their shield and it does not matter.

I went ahead and threw the largest turbo in my reef tank into my mantis tank. About a 2.5" or so turbo and my peacock is 5"+. She's dragged it into her den a few times and whacked on it, but the turbo eventually comes back out. I've also caught her climbing up my rockwork and "jumping" trying to get the snail when it's on the glass. Quite funny, but the big turbo doesn't exactly pull off the glass very easily. She'll hang onto it for a while trying to peel it away.....then she'll hit it a couple of times and it retreats into the shell and falls to the sand.

my peacock mainly eats raw shrimp or snails that I buy for her. She's far too lazy to crack open any astrea snails so I luckily have a CUC in my mantis tank. She's not picky, just lazy
