have you kept an emporer angel in your reef tank? if so how did it do ( nipping corals and such)? it doesn't really matter but i do enjoy pics.

I will let you know shortly, I have a few Leathers coming for my 240 just for the heck of it. I have 3 Angels, but was told leathers may be a good choice as they don't taste good. I am going to throw in a few mushrooms too, if they are getting munched I will toss them in my Nano.

I have an emp in what used to be a somewhat reef. She destoyed colonies of zoos loves mushrooms and takes bites out of leathers. Mind you this is a fish that is feed very heavily. Once they get to be an adult in a reef tank it will be buffet time at some point. Mine is a big big girl though.

One of the Moderators should make a sticky regarding people's experiences with Angels in a reef setting. This question seems to be asked about 200 times in a year, a separate ongoing thread much like the "Achille's Primer" sticky could be very helpful.

BTW, my experience with an emperor is that they like softies. My last one ate about 9 mushrooms on the rock and would nip at my frogspawn and torchs.

No issues with healthy SPS, softies or clams. If a coral or clam is not doing well angels will attack them. There is a reason I don't keep LPS. LPS=snack for large angels.

Two things to keep in mind with emperors. 1) Be prepared to potentially loose some coral 2) They get very big and need lots of swimming room.

jnc914: I agree.

i have a 220 that i plan upgrading soon. currently its pretty much fowler. i want to do a mixed reef with closed brains leathers a few sps corals carnations chilli corals and gorgonias. i'm tring to figure out what i have to take off my list. i need something that can hold its own. there will be 3 lookdowns, a lunare wrasse, dragon wrasse, and a miniatus grouper in with the emporer unless i figure out something that can hold its own and look as nice.

time to totally redo your stocking list-
your fishes are very poor choices for a mixed reef.

My Emperor started eating softies during its transition/sub-adult phase. As a Juvi, the Emp did not touch anything.

Emperor hasn't bothered Euphyllia or Gorgonian on backside of aquarium. Certain corals ("open brains") and clam (prone to getting picked on) had to be re-arranged in the aquarium.

sweet setup! i saw this tank the gallery a while back. thats what i wann do. well something like that. my tank is peninsula style also i think around the same size. aside from the waste issues whats the problem with my stocking list? i would think good husbandry and heavy skimming would make this tank very possible not to mention very different.

I think otherwise :)

I'm sorry for the short reply but your proposed aquarium sounds very familiar- I hear it all the time from many people.
All I can say is do your homework.
