Ok if I had these one of these three lights how long should each one if used seperatly need to be on to give enough light time to a nice reef tank?
Tank 72 x 24 x 24
a. 12 x T5's - (36") 39 Watts each = Total 468 Watts
b. 8 x T5's - (48") 59 Watts each = Total 472 Watts
d. 2 x 250 Watt Metal Halids = 500 Watts
thanks in advance[B]

I use an 8 hour lighting with my MH. I was doing 10, but my electric bill topped out at $400 one month and I cut it back.

People's photoperiods will range anywhere from 6 - 15 hours per day. use what works for your tank, keep in mind that the sun is generally at it's strongest for 4 hours per day. with timers, you can set what bulbs come on and when. doing this can dramatically cut down on ones electric bill.

i have my mh on for 8 hours per day. i don't think the type of lighting you use makes any difference when it comes to how long to leave them on for.

I think most guys run their halides for 8-10 hrs and the actinics for 1 hour either side of this soulfish, i am always changing my light on times, at present my t5s are on for 7 hrs and my LEDs for 1 hr either side, its all about experimenting, start off with slightly less hours and increase, good luck and hope you get it right for your system:)
