Temp Probe

I have had my current temp probe for about 5 years now. Do they ever need to be checked or replaced or maintained in any way? Do they lose calibration or sensitivity? How do I know when it needs to be replaced and to they have a typical lifespan?

I had one for 15 years and it was very accurate until the day it failed. I suspect, as with any electronics it could sway off calibration; see what Curt says.
