Looks great, Jeremy! Nice pairs of wrasse and pics of corals. :D

I normally do aperture priority as well on fine/medium jpg then upload to photobucket. Half the time I forget white balance and too busy to install CS3.

WB is easy now that I have the filter disk. Just have to use it every time you move the camera. I don't have any photo software, so photobucket it is.:D

Ouch! Musta thought she was a silverside....

A brief update before I get out of town for the next couple of days. 3 of 4 are fine and swimming around and eating, but still no sign of the female Rhomboid.:(

Wow. Didn't realize it's been over a month since the last update. Well, things from my last update didn't turn out so well. Of the Rhomboid and Lineatus pairs, I ended up with a single Lineatus survivor.:(

I guess I needed some time to deal with that, but I'm over it now. Here are a few pics of the majority of my chalices. Most of these are still frag size, and a few of the pics didn't make the cut.

Well, I don't know what "fate" has in store for me, but my tank and the month of January don't seem to be in agreement. Last January, while on vacation, the primary GFCI circuit supporting the tank setup in the garage tripped, causing a massive die off of the majority of my corals, as the temp dropped to 56 degrees and there was no circulation in the tank overnight. This morning was a vivid reminder of last year. Only thing is, I was trying to cook the corals instead.:(
Last night, everything looked just fine. This morning, I came upstairs and immediately noticed the smell. If you've ever experienced it, you'd know it immediately. The following is what I saw:

As for the details of what happened..........I know what, just not how. I took my controller offline to send it in for repairs, so my ordinary set of backups were not there, but I have the heater and chiller connected to a Ranco 2 stage temp controller. When I checked it, the temp was up to 90 degrees. Delving further into it, the heat setting was at 220.:eek1: Chiller setting was set as a second heater and not coming on.

Now, only a couple of possibilities seem to be available.
1) My nephew got ahold of the controller and started playing. Not reasonable because of where the controller was located and how long he'd have to have been "playing" with it to get to the settings where they were.
2) A power outage nearly a week ago reset the controller. While the most likely scenario, it doesn't seem to make sense that I would not have seen a change in the tank before this morning. Like I said, everything looked great last night, not so well this morning. Still the most likely, and the corals were likely able to handle the higher than normal temps until this morning.
3) Someone really doesn't like me.

As far as I can tell at this point, I've lost both frogspawn colonies, fungias, numerous acros, and a few truly breathtaking blastos, not to mention the mated pair of Coral Banded shrimp, fire shrimp, 3 peppermint shrimp, and 3 skunk cleaners. The fish seem OK, but I've not yet found the Lineatus.:( I'll update later when I get a better idea of what else does or doesn't survive.

Sorry to see those pics! :(

How many heaters do you run? The temps shot up pretty fast.

Thanks Mike. I run a single 800w Ti heater on the controller, and the controller is usually backed up by being connected to my profilux, which would normally have cut the power to the unit in question is the temps had gone too far out of range.

Nope. Nothing really fits, but I'd guess that it was the power outage and a slowly increasing temp, that culminated in this morning, when it just got too hot for things to handle.

Thanks Jim. I wish I could do something too, but there's only so much before you have to let nature run it's course.

Mini update: Had to leave before any of the lights came on today, but I could see a few more glowing white acros under the moonlights.:( I also have a nearly wrasse free tank. I mentioned I found the Lineatus, now the Flame and Hooded have passed. The Radiant was still alive last night, but I'd be shocked if he still was this morning.:( The only one that seems unaffected was the Leopard.:)
I pulled the obvious casualties out yesterday, cleaned the skimmer, changed the filter socks out, replaced the carbon, and did a large water change. Got more water prepping now for another round tonight, but I'm afraid to turn the lights on and see the extent of the damage in it's full glory.

With all that has already been going on personally, this is just too much. I have decided to break the tank down and sell it. Once life settles down again, I will be back, but I can't handle this now. A series of FS threads will appear over the next few days, as I salvage what I can, and hunker down to ride out my own personal financial dilemas. If you know of anyone who is interested in a spectacular reef setup, consisting of a 80"x24"x30" acrylic tank and furniture grade stand and canopy, please let me know. I'll be trying to figure out pricing in my "spare time".

This is obviously an unpleasant thing to deal with, and I've been contemplating taking the tank down anyhow. This just sealed the deal. I have very much enjoyed meeting you all, both on and off the boards. While I won't have a tank for a while, I'll still definitely be around here on RC. I'm still debating setting up a nano-ish tank, but I need to get through the next few days before I decide on that. Thanks to everyone that has made this journey enjoyable, with particular thanks to a few reefers, and good friends, Mark Poletti, Jim Sotello, and Tim Plaza. There are many others that I'd add to the list, but I've already been extraordinarily long winded.

As we talked earlier, this may not be what any of us would ever want, but I do believe this is the correct thing to do at the present time. The last year has been rough, but I'm glad that we've had the times we've had. :)

This Hobby is so great at times and so darn unforgiving at others. JT as said by many others this is truely a shame. To not only see what has happened but to know how much you have put into this tank. I think when it becomes more of a chore or not fun anymore is the time to step away. Hope your other troubles pass as well.

Oh, Jeremy. Man o man o man. I don't know what to say. Stunning. As you know I can relate to many of the hardships you are facing right now. I wish I had some way to help you bridge forward, but my own situation is a challenge to grind on to the next day... This is sad news. Please keep something going, even a brute can in your garage. Anything.

As a reefer, you have been very generous to me, and I would gladly help you repopulate your stock with anything fraggable from my systems.

Thanks everyone. I'm beyond despair. I'm pretty much ****ed now. Good thing too, because I could use the extra determination to tell this particular fate where it can go.:bum:

Jeremy that really sucks. I know where you are coming from though. Best of luck and let us know when you start your next big tank build!

It's hard to believe that lightning can strike twice like that! When you come back, I'll frag whatever's in my tank to get you back in the game. I don't have most of the awesome corals you did, but it's a start. Hang in there.... the economy can't stay like this forever!
