Timers dimmed?

Hello all. I was wondering how you shut your tanks down at night. For those of you with lights on timers, do they just shut off the light? Or do they actually dim the lights in a progressive shutdown? As though the sun were actually setting. Where could one get dimmer timers?

There are controllers that do this, but you need special ballasts for the lights, which become very expensive. I just use multiple timers, first my center mh turns off, 1/2 hr later my 2 outside go off, followed by vho's. About 10 min before the last vho, my moonlights come on. It makes a very nice transition.
