I just installed a radium bulb and it is really not that blue. It looks more like a 12 or 14k bulb. The ballast I'm using is a sunlight supply galaxy. Is this normal for a new radium?

The Radium 20,000K 400-watt lamp will appear whiter (white/blue) on an electronic or magnetic HQI ballast. These ballasts overdrive the lamp (operate lamp past the wattage rating) which changes the visual appearance (color) of the lamp.

I've got a 400w radium on a galaxy, looks pretty blue to me, I think it's just the right color but hey we all see things a little differently I suppose.

What are the ballast choices which operate in the right wattage?

The only ballasts approved and recommended by Radium for the 400-watt lamp is a North American magnetic pulse start (ANSI M135/M155) ballast or European magnetic (low lamp current) mercury vapor reactor ballast equipped with a high voltage (4000 volt) ignitor. Any other ballast will overdrive the lamp. Some people do not like the Radium on these ballasts because the lamp appears too blue for them but color is very subjective.
