I have been using 10k reeflux bulbs running off a coralvue ballast. I am not happy with the performance after 6month of running these bulbs as they look very dull. I also run 2x 80w T5s I am wondering what is a good bulb choice to try next? I was tempted to try 10k XM as i have heard the par loss ofter a year isn't much? Any pic help and thoughts appreciated?

I think XM 10000 is more yellow then the Reeflux. The PAR is much better though.

I use 400 Watt Aqua Connect 14000 K with Lumatek ballasts and I'm very happy with them. Sanjay's charts also show the PAR is very high compared to other 400 watters. They also last for a long time.

I run a reeflux 12k on my frag tank and a XM 10k and XM 20k on my display. The par rating of a XM 10k on a PFO Hqi ballast is unbelievable. And the growth is also. But the color is very yellow. A lot more yellow than the 10k reeflux. I think it more resembles natural sunlight. I run the 20k for color and the 10k for growth. The 10k only runs for 3 hours a day (hours I am at work!). The 20k runs for 7 hours. I have 4 VHO's that run for 2 hours before and 3 hours after the halides. Seems to slowly ramp up the light then tapper it down towards the night.

VHO's....10am-12pm...7pm-10pm
20k.......12pm-7pm
10k.......1pm-4pm

20k and 10k are on together for the 3 hour period. This set up gives good growth and great color. I attribute a portion of my stable ph to this. My ph has increased a bit towards the end of the light cycle since my lighting change.

I think only using one MH color spectrum is a problem with over all true colors. The 20k brings out the blues, greens and purples. Where the 10k brings out the red, pinks, oranges and yellows. Could be why the T-5 tanks have an over all more intense color that the MH tanks seem to lack. Because they can run multiple spectrum bulbs at the same time. JMO

Good stuff i am toying with the idear of 400w 6.5k Iwasaki with 2 or 4 T5s blue to get my corals to grow faster. I was wondering if the colours would dull out though? Any links to bulbs and par ratings?
