Hy, i recently upgrade my 9420 to a 9440.

It´s really necessáry to have the pumps immerse completely on water ?

When using a 9420, part of the water usually went out by the neck hole, but with the 9440, the water level on the neck simply do not move even a little... Is that normal ?

Any other tip on using this great skimmer ?

best regards.

they dont need completely immersed, the pumps sticking out about 1/2 or so is about perfect.

I am assuming you changed to the short output pipe when you added the second pump? If so have you tried adding the booster ring?

Water should exit the hole. I would have the pumps at least 2/3rd submerged, otherwise air builds up at the top of the impeller housing and they run hotter.

Whoops ment it to say 1/2" or so those little ticks make a bit of a differnce in this case. Sorry about that

Ok will try tu use 100% submerged... only if there is no other option... I´m using the booster ring and also the short output pipe...

this skimmer is takking out 100ML a day... in a 150 Gal system... amazing

ORP increased from 230 to 340 (9420) and now 380 (9440)...

Nitrate and Phosphato... Zero.

Hey Carlos you have a 9440 in a 150 gallon system? I would think that it would be oversized. Any pictures thanks in advance

yes, it is oversized... because I´m building my new tank with total of 450Gal...

My plan is to use my old 9020 and this new 9440 combined to assure the proper car to this system.

this is a picture (bad one) of my system

Thanks Carlos I have a Euro Reef CS8/2 that I believe is either oversized or the pump is not working correctly. I was considering installing a 9420 pump on my skimmer but was worried that it would make a oversized skimmer way to large. Do you have the the 450 gallons now? The tank is beautiful thanks again for the pictures. Jim

Still under construction (see large reef tanks post) and th 9440 is working just fine... taking out 100ml a day of black and dry skimmate.

those pumps are very strong, quiet and I´m 100% happy with the 9440...

By the time it was 9420... I had two major problems:

1- Only 200ml of skimmate a week (still good, but nothing comparing with 9440)
2- Need to clean the reaction chamber at least once a week

Best regards.
