Refugium setup

I am about to convert from a sump to a refugium. I have a couple of questions. Should i use a filter sock? Also should I place the skimmer before the refugium in the first chamber where the water comes in or in the pump chamber? Thanks for your responses.

Filter socks help. I would place that after your fuge and before the sump. Do you plan to use the same tank and just divide it up or use separate tanks? The sump should be placed after the fuge in most set-ups. Look here for some different designs and ideas:

I would use a filter sock to filter all the water entering the Sump/fuge. I would keep the Protein Skimmer in the first section with the filter sock.
