I have a crayola plana table and some kind acro I got from a friend. Anyway I was looking at my tank yesterday and thought I saw them growing together. Upon closer examination, it looked like they had fused/grafted together. Very strange...Do you think they did or is it just my imagination?

In this picture, you can see the smaller acro that is darker green in color. It has grown into the table acro. The crayola table was grown on a frag disc and the acro was grown on a frag plug. The plug got pushed over near the disc and that's how it started.

Here’s a top down of the piece that fused together. You can tell the other acro has vibrant green polyps and has some green in the body while the crayola table does not.

Here’s the base of the table acro after pulling out the fused piece.

That's pretty neat. My crayola plana grew into my nana, and the nana totally encrusted it and killed the entire branch.

Yes, I would say it happens!

No killing going on here... too cool.

Nice one C&C! Are they fused together at the base or growing against each other. Do you have any up close pics of the base?

I have an Ora Chips Acro and a Green Slimer that grew together & fused into 1 big glob where they were touching. Not very attractive, I finally cut them back and threw that part away. It does happen sometime, just depends on the corals.

Here you go Slovan. Best pic I could get showing base.

The yellow and red bases are actually fused and growing together. Interestingly, there is even a new branch at the bottom (coming off the fused bases) which appears to be a combination of the two and is reddish/yellow in color.

By the way, I cannot take credit for being instrumental in this process as this beautiful creature was purchased this way from our wonderful bay area LFS -- Ichthy Fish and Other Stuff.

I have a granulosa and a lokani that I think fused or "grafted". Notice the more purple side where they were touching while growing.
