View Full Version : Strange acropora behavior

Not too long ago, one of my long-established acropora colonies started putting out mesenterial strands or filaments every time I feed the tank. This shouldn't be a problem....but, it seems this particular coral isn't resistant to its own threads, and is digesting its own tissue, namely at the growth tips of the coral. SO, I have this nicely growing coral with a bunch of stripped off tissue at the tips. NO changes in my parameters at all, so, it's not ALK burns or anything like that. Has anyone had this happen before?

have you changed, added, subtracted, or done even the slightest thing different lately? Have you tried fragging one of the branches back a bit and seeing if the new growth results in the same issues?
cheers~!

Only thing that I had done differently is starting to feed Formula One flakes again. Not 2 minutes after I feed this food, the filaments come out.
