There's a fellow from Turkey posting in my local reef forum who has a friend visiting Chicago from there & he wants his friend to bring some corals back. What is the best way to do this? I know how to pack them but what is the protocal for getting them on the plane & thru Customs? He will also be making a stopover in the UK. I will be packing them in individual urine specimin cups. there will be montis & zoas.

I told him he must have his friend carry them on, because if they do need to inspect them, his friend shuold be there to supervise. I also told him to contact Fish & Wildlife & get it in writing that he has permission to bring them into the UK & Turkey or they might be confiscated.

I'm not sure how rigidly Turkey enforces CITES, but I am sure that it is a signatory and that it sure would be a very good thing to research before attempting to transport any wildlife these days, especially those found on the CITES lists.
