how long does gfo last?

i'm starting to show some signs of unwanted algae and popped in about 2 cups of gfo into my reactor. does anybody know how long it will take before the gfo is used up?

That is dependant on the amount of phosphate that was in the water prior to the addition of the GFO. How large is your tank? Did you test the level of the phosphate in your tank? Also different brands and batches, shipments of GFO can provide different amounts of phosphate removal. I would suggest you google Randy Holmes Farley phosphate.

Varies depending on the brand and amount of nutrients in the water but seems like 4 to 6 weeks is the norm for most. :)

Have you measured phosphate at all, or just have the algae issue?
