I want to order some sand. They say it is white, but, I have never seen white aragonite "oolitic" sand, it is always a cream to brownish color, like in thier photo. Was thinking of getting it from the "Doctor". Any way I can make sure my sand is white? Would they be willing to sign something that says they pay for shipping back to them and all my money if it is not?

I know, sounds silly, but, 150lbs of sand shipped sight unseen scares me.

I wouldn't worry aragonite oolitic sand are very white, provided you have decent 10,000K or higher spectrum lighting. Trust me, it's white. If you still see cream, you must be wearing sunglasses or your light is 6500K or less.

I used Fiji Pink. It looked yellow in the bag. Now that it's in my tank it looks super white.

Yea sometimes the bag makes it look yellowish. This was the case for the seachem "Meridian" sugar-sized sand I bought. Looked yellow in the bag, stark white once it's in the tank.

I got the dry stuff from marinedepot.com and the "live" wet version from two local fish stores. It' looked most yellow in the dry bag.

They're pretty much all white depending on your lighting. I wouldn't worry. If it doesn't come out the way you like it, change the lighting around a bit.

it turns yellow dry probably due to chemistry with O2... I can't explain it because I'm not a chemist. If you wipe a natural stone floor, when it's wet the true color shines out... when it's dry, the color is faded.

I've had the crushed marble in the DT for a couple of months. I replaced some old medium grain Argonite and added a remote DSB so I was looking for something white, calcium based and inexpensive. I think it cost about 11 cents per pound at the local hardware store. I had to shop around a little to find it, but I found a few places in SoCal area that stock it.
