I used to use Ocean's blend two part system it kept calcium and alk perfect. I used about a cap of each and easy as pie. They strengthened the formula and now apparantely the calcium isn't as strong as the alk so you have to use different amounts of each....I tried it and put trace amounts but calcium and alk spiked huge. I literally put two drops of each every other day for a week and still spiked. I am getting frustrated....Any other two part system you guys use that is easy to measure and maintain? I have 130 total gallons, 8 LPs so I don't require a ton....Also how much do you add to your tank and what frequency?

Well, the other biggie is B-Ionic; I use it on my 120g system, about two caps of each a day. Never had a problem after five years and two tanks.

Randy's Two Part Homemade Supplement (http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-02/rhf/index.php) is very popular.

Also a Calcium & alkalinity Calculator (http://home.comcast.net/~jdieck1/chemcalc.html) lets you calculate how much of each part to add.

B-Ionic here, but I'll use Randy's homemade after I run out. Also drip kalk to maintain. What is your magnesium reading? Here's why I'm asking:

scroll down to the magnesium info - about halfway. This may not explain the numbers you're seeing, but then again...

good luck!

I was a two little fishes supporter for over an year or so. I recently switched to Bulk Reef Supply's total package which consists of the Calcium, Alkalinity, and Magnesium. I have great results since the switch the price is pretty good as well :). I have mine on aqua reef doser I dose calcium every four hours for 30 seconds and my alkalinity every three hours for 25 seconds. I am dosing the magnesium as needed to keep the levels up as well.

I've used a number of different brands. They all pretty much do the same thing and they all work. Thing that varies the most is the dosage. You will have to do trial and error with a lot of testing until you figure it out. Once you do it's pretty steady unless your system's needs change. That being said, I use Bulkreef's 2 part with dosing pumps.

B-Ionic for me as well. The only time I ever have a problem is if it is user error (like I forget to add).

Another fan of Bulk Reef Supply.

Very very easy to mix and use. Very consistant.

I use Reef Code A and B, but it's a little spendy at my LFS. I'll be looking into alternatives, or at least an alternative place to buy it! :)

I use C-Balance currently, however, as most on this thread have stated, when I bring my 100g up it will be dosed with Randy's 2 part. This is for several reasons - for ease of ordering, money, and the shear quantity that can be made at one time.
