View Full Version : Which fish to add to my 90g

Im looking to add a few more fish. I was thinking a pair or trio of anthias or more smaller fish.

Currently have:

Tomini tang
5 b/g chromis
2 small clowns

Im running a BB tank with high flow.

Any suggestions? Is my tank too small for all of those anthias. How about a two barred rabbitfish?

Or, a bunch of firefish?

I think a few Apogon leptacanthus would compliment the chromis nicely.

Not my pic.

You can see them in this video along with the Apogon parvulus:

I really like the ones with the red dot on their tail, where can I buy one?

Those are my favorite cardinals. But they are hard to find.

Another fish that I really like are longfins. I have been considering adding a pair or trio of Golden Assessor basslets to my tank. They are very peaceful and are something different from you standard shoaling fish.

Much better price, still an expensive fish for being so small but it is very pretty!

I was thinking about some of the cardinals that have the red on them, I believe they are a bit more rare than the bengali.

Has anyone had experience with multiple chalk bass?

Logzor,
I hear that not only are the red dot cardinals hard to find, but they're hard to keep alive. I recall someone saying that in order to get 10 to survive, you need to buy 50. So, you might wanna research them 1st.

Well thats out of the question then, I want fish that are normally kept and ones that do not have a reputation of dying.

I think you could fit a few Lyretail anthias in there. I keep mine in a 125, and while they enjoy all the space, display, and exhibit many interesting behaviors, they could probably get by in a 4ft tank. I'd say you could have 3-5 maybe. An Anthia expert would have to correct me,

FWIW here is my tank - its pretty roomy, no rock touches the glass at any point:

I know rockwork plays a major role in how many and what type of fish you can keep. I have made lots of caves inside of the rock - many great hiding places.

The Tomini sleeps in the cave in the bottom left tower - along with his pal the blood shrimp.

It's very open.

As for Anthias, they seem to vary in terms of maximum size. I'm only familiar with Lyretails, but they're pretty much 2.5" tops. I think 3-5 fish 2.5" in length would certainly fit.

So is BlueZoo still around? Their site is down and I see that ReefCentral removed them from the Sposored Forums.

EDIT: I have no idea why this got posted here. I was responding to another thread.

Has anyone had experience with multiple chalk bass?

I had 2 chalk bass, one of them ended up being the bully of the tank. Harassed the other chalkie, and pretty sure made my dartfish, shrimp gobies jump. Luckily he himself ended up in overflo so I could return him easily, before anymore damage.

The orange lined cardinals mentioned are one I`m looking at for my upgrade after the holidays.

The cardinals are fine once settled, rather it's the issue of settling them that is difficult. Don't rule them out in that regard.

Does a flame wrasse eat small snails - do they require sand?

Chalk Bass have always been one of my favorites; I have had 2 in my 90gal reef for about 3 years. They have been good additions to the reef until recently. They are now about full size and are becoming aggressive towards less aggressive fish such as my chromis and royal gramma. Their colors are also starting to darken and not be as vibrant as they once were. Other than that they have been great fish and I have enjoyed them.

I was thinking maybe 2-3 chalk bass.

My goal is to add a decent number of fish. Since my tank is bb with lots of flow and good skimming (and sps) I want a lot of fish poop moving around.

So maybe one bigger fish (like a rabbitfish? - I really want a two barred) and 3 chalk bass and maybe one other smaller fish?
